The last couple months have been busy for our board and we thought it would be a good time to give everyone an update on what we have been up to!
First, our membership for ICF is paid! Our ICF membership cost 150EU ($226.41 CAD) this year.
Our IFSS membership is also paid! Our IFSS membership cost 800EU ($1192.17 CAD) this year. The next IFSS World Championship is on-snow from February 9-15, 2025 in Norway. IFSS has not yet announced the dates or location for the next IFSS Dryland World Championships, though we expect they will take place in the Fall of 2025. Updates on applications for this championship to come.
IFSS DID update: Please note, IFSS has increased the DID fee for 2024-2025. CAHDS will also be adopting a new policy with respect to DIDs for 2024-25. There is a minimum amount to transfer funds to IFSS. Typically this means we must have received at least 3 DID requests to send the funds to IFSS. Going forward, we will adopt the following policy with respect to DIDs:
DID Applications received before July 1st, 2024:
DID Fee: $85
All applications will be processed during the first week of July
DID Applications received between July 2nd and August 15th, 2024:
DID fee: $95
All applications will be processed at the end of August
DID Applications received between August 16th and November 30th, 2024:
DID fee: $105
All applications will be processed in December

We have received many inquiries from individuals in Quebec looking for an update on the status of a Quebec Regional Organization following MACQ’s resignation from CAHDS. Quebec athletes wishing to participate in National and International Championships, must now obtain independent CAHDS memberships. All independent members across Canada are represented by the independent seat on the CAHDS board (presently, Kat Spencer). We have created a new committee (aptly named the Independent Members Committee) to improve the representation of provinces without ROs. Presently, Quebec residents, Gabrielle Riverin and Daniel Lusignan have been appointed to this committee and have started to work with Kat to make sure the interests of all our independent members are well-represented! We will continue to appoint individuals from other unrepresented provinces and territories to this committee in hopes of further strengthening organized harness dog sports in Canada and continuing our sport-building mission across the nation!
Over the course of Fall 2023 and Spring 2024, 7 Golden Ticket events (4 Dryland and 3 On-Snow) were organized across the country! Certificates have been emailed to the winners and will grant automatic qualifications for the following National Championships.
Speaking of National Championships, we are very excited to announce that the next Dryland Canadian National Championship will take place from October 1st to 7th in Sundre, Alberta! Qualifying standards and general athlete information can be found on our website here. More information, including the event website and Facebook Event coming soon!
We are actively working on a Code of Conduct and Ethics for athletes participating in national and international events. With the growth of our sport and the increased desire among our athletes to represent Canada internationally, we think it is important that our athletes are held to a high standard regarding their own behaviour and dog care.
Finally, the first round of selections for Team Canada at the ICF World Championship closed on April 30th. We are currently in the process of redacting the applications to be sent to the selection committee. Applications are reviewed anonymously to ensure a fair selection process. While adding work for the CAHDS board and some delays in the response to international athletes, we believe the double blind application review is an important part of the selection of Canadian athletes. The list of athletes selected will be made available as soon as we hear back from the selection committee.
